A. Hundreds! The Award recognises and celebrates the inspirational qualities of young people. Award Holders have been involved in many activities, including volunteering, sitting on the school council, campaigning, fundraising, raising cultural and environmental awareness, providing peer support, being a young carer, taking part in anti-bullying initiatives or have overcome a disability or illness and continue to contribute to their communities. Q. How many young people can I nominate as part of a group?
A. You can nominate between 7 and 30 young people as part of the same group.
Q. Do I have to write separate forms?
A. If you are nominating individuals for different activities or reasons then yes, each nomination must be written on a separate form
Q. Can I nominate more than one young person if they haven't completed the same activity?
A. Yes. You can nominate up to six individual young people who meet one or more of our nomination criteria. If you wish to nominate more than six young people, you must nominate them as a group and they must be engaged in the same activity.
Q. Do I need to supply additional evidence with the nomination form?
A. Yes. You should include additional evidence wherever possible, including any newsletters, books and samples of websites created by the nominee(s). You should also include any anecdotal or written evidence from people who have benefited from the activities of your nominee(s).
Please note, delays may occur if your nomination form is not completed correctly. Q. Do I need to form a Nominations Committee?
A. Yes. You must form a Nominations Committee of at least four people and supply us with their details. This will show us that you have consulted with others who have then endorsed your nomination.
Q. Can young people be part of the Nominations Committee?
A. Yes. However, a member of the school or organisation’s management team must chair the Committee.
Q. Who else should I include on the Nominations Committee?
A. You should include a cross section of people. In addition to asking a member of your management team to organise the committee, you could include young people, staff members and members of the organisation or group for which the nominee volunteers.
Q. Can young people nominate each other?
A. Young people can be involved in the decision-making necessary to make a nomination. However, the overall responsibility for nomination should lie with a member of teaching staff or an organisation’s project co-ordinator or team leader.
Q. How long will it take you to send our Award Holders’ certificates and lapel pins?
A. Certificates and lapel pins will be sent out approximately two to three weeks after the deadline date. However, if you require your certificates and lapel pins before this time we can usually arrange for you to have them earlier, although this may be difficult close to deadline dates. (Please note, whilst lapel pins are send free to holders of the main Diana Award, we can only supply them to Anti-Bullying Award holders in return for a small fee. Please contact us for more details).
A. Yes. We can provide details of schools, colleges or other organisations in your region if you are interested in holding a joint event.
Q. How many times can we nominate in an academic year?
A. Once for each of our Awards. For example in the academic year 2007-2008, a school or organisation could nominate a peer mentoring group for the Anti-bullying Award and a young carer for the Main Diana Award.
Q. Can I nominate my son or daughter for the Diana Award or Anti-bullying Award?
A. No. the Awards are only open to schools, colleges and other organisations that work with young people. However, parents who feel that their children meet our nomination criteria may ask their child’s school, college or other organisation to nominate them for an Award.
