Award Holder of the Month

Priya VermaPriya Verma

Sixteen-year-old Priya Verma has joined a small, but growing number of international Diana Award Holders for her innovative environmental work in her native India. A multi-talented scientist, Priya's originality could have a massive impact on communities across the globe.

"I completed my project on underground water resources in 2006," she explains. "I visited various places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for first hand experience and talked to various experts in this field while writing my project. I have suggested four techniques to increase the level of groundwater in my project. Each of them is universally applicable, globally novel, cost-effective, eco-friendly and can be applied anywhere in the world to save precious underground water."

Priya's work was also recognised by the Indian Government, which conferred a National Youth Award 2007 on her. Her project has also been displayed at the International Project Gallery 2007 at Goteburg in Sweden. Indeed, she has won recognition in many countries for her work and she has many great talents - she is also a leading young actress who has worked in film and TV.

Receiving a Diana Award has given Priya an even greater passion for helping others. "The Award has encouraged me in my efforts to save water, life and the environment," she says. "I believe this Award will encourage others to do something for their community, country and world. It is a source of inspiration."
