    Chloe WilliamsChloe's Story

    It's hard enough for most teenagers to juggle school, home and leisure commitments without having to take responsibility for their families. But this is exactly what Award Holder Chloe has done for several years, ever since she was 10 years old and her mother became ill and needed repeated hospital treatment. Since then Chloe has not only looked after her mother, but has cared for a younger sibling and generally held things together. (more...)

    Kenny MilnerKenny's Story

    Eighteen students, including Kenny Milner, have given their time to support pupils in Year 7. They offer regular one-to-one sessions in which they encourage and support the younger students. Their work, for which group members give up their lunchtimes, has had a massive impact on the self-esteem and confidence of the people they have helped.

    Mikey LloydMikey's Story

    Award Holder Mikey Lloyd is not just a fabulous carer, he's also got courage and modesty in equal measure. When his sister was born in 2001, she was found to have liver disease and needed a transplant when she was only 17 months old. She had to be fed through a naso-gastric tube until she was 4 years old.     Melanie Whitley not only cares for her mother, who suffers from blindness, but she is also a significant carer in her school community. She is busy establishing a young carers group in school for young people who would benefit from mutual support, as well as a support group for those who are coping with family trauma. (more...)
