    Anti-Bullying Alliance

    Our partnership with the Anti-Bullying Alliance has enabled us to launch a special Diana Anti-Bullying Award. In contrast to the main Diana Award, it is open to pupils at both primary and secondary schools. The Anti-Bullying Award is given to young people who have made an outstanding contribution to tackling bullying in their schools or communities. Individuals or groups who are nominated will have:

    • Participated in, led or set up an anti-bullying programme;
    • Received training from a recognised source;
    • Shown evidence that their work has improved the lives of others;
    • Been involved in decision-making processes regarding the eradication of bullying.

    There are already more than 7,000 Diana Anti-Bullying Award Holders across the UK.

    Together with the Anti-Bullying Alliance we have:

    • Provided young spokespeople who have received the Diana Anti-bullying Award;
    • Generated case studies that illustrate the best, grass-roots ways of tackling bullying;
    • Worked on Anti-bullying Week and held special events to promote it;
    • Sat on steering groups to represent young people who have worked hard to tackle bullying.
    • Begun work to establish youth membership of the Anti-Bullying Alliance.

    Young Anti-Bullying Alliance
    YABA logoOur partnership with the Anti-bullying Alliance has helped to give young people a more prominent voice in the fight against bullying.

    Together we have set up the Young Anti-bullying Alliance (YABA), which works to increase participation in the campaign against bullying and make sure young people's opinions are heard. So far, YABA has done much to bring together young people from across the country at events that raise awareness of anti-bullying work.

    During 2008 and beyond, YABA will continue to champion young people's voices in regional and national campaigns.

    Open University

    For the past three years, we have been working in partnership with the Open University's Children's Research Centre on a Young Researchers Programme. The aim has been to train young people to be effective researchers.

    Together we have:

    • Held a 2-day course in recognised research methods, giving Award Holders training in interviewing techniques, data analysis, questionnaire building skills, observation and body language skills, communication skills and advice on how to lead focus groups.
    • Given young people the opportunity to undertake a piece of research themselves, conducted over a maximum six months with one-to-one support from Open University and the Diana Award. Issues researched by our Award Holders have included topics diverse as anti-bullying, personal safety, smoking, young carers and transport provisions for young people with disabilities.
    • Worked with Award Holders to conduct important research that has fed into the Diana Award's strategy and its development, particularly examining why people nominate and how aware target groups are of the Award's existence. One group of young researchers also researched the feasibility of setting up a regional hub network of award holders across the UK - work we are now engaged in.
    • Given two young researchers the chance to take part in consultations with the Office for Public Management and to help the National Youth Agency set up their National Research Network.

    Young Timebank

    Young TimebankThe Diana Award is proud to be in partnership with Young TimeBank, which supports young people in schools and colleges around the country to tackle the issues they care about. It does this by involving them in creative, youth-led community projects.

    Young TimeBank provides schools with free resources and materials for the projects, as well as ongoing support from facilitators to help young people turn their ideas into action. They are able to tackle their chosen issue by arranging an event, creating art for an exhibition, making a film, organising a campaign, producing a publication, or devising a drama production.

    The Diana Award has been proud to highlight Young Timebank's Resources for its Award Holders. The partnership has led to Young Timebank devising workshops and training for Award Holders' Conferences, as well as a Diana Award five--day residential project.

    Shakespeare 24

    We are proud to announce we will be working with Shakespeare International on its new worldwide event Shakespeare 24.

    Shakespeare International

    Shakespeare 24 invites young people from around the world to participate in a 24-hour Shakespeare performance event on

    Shakespeare's birthday April 23rd 2008, with productions happening at 7pm across all time zones beginning in New Zealand and ending in Hawaii.

    Youth groups will produce their own interpretations of Shakespeare's most famous plays, which may include the use of local dance, music and performance art forms to create a global celebration of youth, culture, creativity and Shakespeare.

    Shakespeare International will provide groups with resources to support productions and facilitate communication online, enabling groups to participate in a social and cultural international exchange programme.

    Shakespeare International plans to kick-start worldwide interest amongst young people in performing Shakespeare on an ever increasing scale in the years leading up to the 2012 London Cultural Olympiad.

    Radiowaves

    Radiowaves logoSince 2002, Radiowaves have pioneered the use of participative media and social networking in education. They create learning experiences for young people which are safe, fun and highly interactive.

    We have partnered up with Radiowaves to launch an online channel for the Diana Award. Radiowaves enables young people to become web-reporters and tell their story, from their world, in their way. We are currently working with a group of Award holders to develop and manage the project. To view the Diana Award Radiowaves Channel please visit www.radiowaves.co.uk/s/DianaAward.

    Consultation Groups

    We have worked with many organisations and Government departments to provide Award Holders to take part in forums, allowing them to gain feedback on new initiatives, projects and products. Partners have included Timebank, the Office for Public Management and the former Department for Education and Skills.

    We are particularly keen for our Award Holders to become involved in consultation groups because they:

    • Develop their skills;
    • Give them a platform to express their views;
    • Allow them to take part in the development of new products and initiatives;
    • Provide them with new opportunities and give them further opportunities to make a positive impact on society.

    We hope that you will consider inviting our Award Holder to help you, especially if:

    • You want your products, initiatives or projects to be relevant to young people's lives;
    • You want to hear from motivated, clear-thinking young people from a range of all backgrounds, cultures and abilities;
    • You want to receive innovative and creative contributions to your work.
